Series 2: Shark Tank

Ep. 106 - Scott Shields - EcoNuts

Washing clothes is a necessary part of life, but the process is not exactly environmentally-friendly. Between the plastic containers used, the chemicals in detergents, and the cost of production, there are lots of byproducts that can harm the environment.

Scott Shields tackled this problem by developing an all-natural product called EcoNuts — a berry shell that contains a naturally-occuring cleaning agent that works like detergent. The berries grow on the Sapindus mukorossi (Soap Berry) tree in the Himalayas.

When he pitched this idea to the Sharks it was not the success he had planned. However his appearance on the show did bring some positive exposure for him and his company, boosting sales and his confidence to press on with this idea and his business.

"We were in Hawaii when our episode aired. The people at the front desk saw our show and immediately upgraded us to a suite. Over the next few days we watched six figure sales come in!"
Scott celebrated his Shark Tank effect
